THREE teams left with a spring in their step after competing in the UK Cheerleading Association Spring Championships.

Held at the Manchester Velodrome the Hip Hotshots from Hipperholme Grammar School competed against some of the top cheer clubs in the country.

The Street Cheer section was the first category of the day and saw the senior girls perform their ‘Fire’ routine. Despite a few nervous errors, the team put in a great performance and came away with yet another first place street cheer trophy and another national title.

The Pom Dance section was held in the afternoon with girls from year seven and year nine competing in levels 1 and 2 of the 16 and under categories respectively.

For a few of the younger ones, this was the first competition, but they held their nerve and earned a creditable third place trophy.

The year nine girls had a slightly frantic run up to the competition with a last minute replacement, but their experience and dedication saw them through and they were awarded second place.

The teams will return to the Velodrome for the National Schools’ Cheerleading Championships at the end of June.

Dawn Murray, who coaches the squad, said she felt incredibly proud. “Not just for their results in the competition, but for their commitment, dedication and support of each other, and for the progress they have all made throughout this last year. I am looking forward to a great weekend at the championships.”
