The Mayor of Calderdale, Councillor Ann Martin, visited Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School to celebrate the success of one of its students.

Coun Martin (Lab, Brighouse) and her consort Mohammed Naeem were invited to lunch by the school’s headteacher Helen Morgan in order to present the school with an android tablet as part of a celebration of student Jessica Firth’s achievement.

Now a year nine student Jessica won a competition in July to write a poem to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Halifax Town Hall. As well as creating the best poem for her age category, the Mayor also awarded Jessica as the outright winner from the Calderdale area resulting in success for her English teachers too.

Jessica visited the Town Hall with her family in the summer to be presented with the first android tablet.
