Police want to speak to this man in connection with the attempted theft of a pensioner’s handbag in Heckmondwike.

At around 9.45am on Friday, September 20, the 70-year-old victim was walking down steps off Swallow Street, Heckmondwike, near the bus depot, when she was approached from behind by a man. The man placed his hand on the victim’s hand, in which she was holding her handbag and purse, causing her to scream. The man then ran off empty-handed in the direction of Heckmondwike town centre.

The man is described as Asian, around 18-years-old, of slim build and was wearing a light blue or lilac coloured jacket, a light coloured t-shirt and stone-washed blue jeans.

Anyone who can assist in identifying the man in the e-fit image or who has any other information which could help the ongoing investigation should contact PC Chris Birkenshaw of the Spen Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team on the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, details can be passed to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
