Vodka thief apprehended by member of the public

A man was apprehended by a member of the public after trying to steal a bottle of vodka from a convenience store in Bailiff Bridge.

Police were called to the incident at Costcutter on Bradford Road at 5pm on Saturday.

The suspect had allegedly attempted to steal the vodka from the store, but was detained by a member of the public as he ran outside.

Police initially thought the captured man had suffered a fractured jaw, but it turned out to be bruising.

The man, who is in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of theft and has since been released on police bail.
