Youngsters have been reeled into the fun of fishing.

Five children from the Rastrick area have started a six-week course with the Brighouse Angling Association.

The course was organised by PC Chris Madden, community beat officer for the area, to keep the youngsters entertained during the summer holidays.

They were shown one of three types of fishing, whip and pole, to catch roach, bream, rudd, tench and carp.

Pc Madden said: “The first few weeks have gone really well and they have all enjoyed it and have promised to keep attending the course. It is something a bit different for them to get their teeth into and gives them something extra to do through the summer holidays. They all did really well.”

He hopes the course will end with a fishing match against a team from the William Henry Smith School, Rastrick.

He is also working on other activities for youths throughout the holiday period.
