Brighouse Cricket Club has been awarded a grant of £7,464 by The England and Wales Cricket Trust (EWCT)

towards the cost of a non turf pitch.

Brighouse Sports Club Secretary, Dave Potkins said: “We were very pleased to receive the grant award. The new synthetic match play pitch will provide an ideal safe pitch to develop young cricketers from a coaching and match play situation”.

The EWCT offers capital investment support to clubs in the Yorkshire area to enable the number of leagues, teams and players to increase and develop. The funding has been described as a “real boost” to the clubs plans for the future.

Brighouse Cricket Club has two senior teams playing in the Bradford League division 2 but are very keen to build up the junior section which only has one age group team at the moment. The pitch will also be used to develop the “Last Man Stands “style of cricket.

Mr Potkins said: “With this new fixture programme for next season it will not only increase the participation in the playing of the game but more cricketers will be making use of the club’s facilities which will generate more income. As a multi sports club for the benefit of the community it’s important to build capital reserves to sustain our sporting activities.”
