A BRIGHOUSE couple celebrated 50 years of marriage by renewing their wedding vows.

Watched by a congregation of 65, Leslie and Joyce Day renewed their vows at Central Methodist Church, Brighouse.

Joyce worked at Brighouse High School for 32 years and only retired last August at the age of 69. She attended St Chad’s Primary School, Hove Edge, and St Martin’s Secondary Modern School, Brighouse.

Leslie worked at Thomson and Hudson as a driver but took early retirement at the age of 63. He also worked at Asda in Bradley for a short time after retiring and watched the children during dinner times at Brighouse High. He retired completely at the age of 72 due to ill health.

He attended St James’s School and Rastrick Grammar School.

Two years ago Leslie, aged 73, was rushed into hospital with kidney failure which is why the family wanted to make it a day to remember.

“It was lovely it really was,” said Joyce. “We have a £400 donation for Highbury School, Rastrick, because I didn’t want presents. I just want to thank everyone for such a lovely day.”

The couple, who live at Whinney Hill, Brighouse, have four children, seven grandchildren and two great grand-daughters.
