A Brighouse company responded to an SOS call to help transform a room that had been ransacked by thieves.
Crime Scene Rescue had made an urgent plea to businesses to help them renovate a house in Leeds which had been struck by thieves.
During the break in the back patio doors were smashed and the bedroom ransacked. The thieves stole a camera and jewellery that had belonged to the owners late mother who had died only 10 weeks previously.
The BBC1 programme aired on Monday and introduced the couple as Jim and Sue who were out at the time of the break in.
Decorating company W. Barber and Sons Ltd were quick to respond to the call and gave up six hours to help transform the bedroom.
Colin Barber from the company said: “You have all the other traders in there trying to move furniture and hang up curtains so at times it can be absolute chaos but it seems to work.”
It’s not the first time Colin has been involved in this type of programme. Last year he helped Nick Knowles on DIY SOS who transformed a house in Low Laithes in Sowerby Bridge.
“It’s definitely worth it when the owners come back. The lady in Leeds was distraught because she felt the bedroom was dirty after they had moved in and she was struggling to sleep. It does make a big difference to their lives.”
Sue said: “It is lovely. It’s beautiful. It has helped a lot because it was trashed and it didn’t feel nice knowing that someone had been in. But this is brilliant.”
The company was based in Huddersfield Road but is looking for new premises.
