Charities and organisations have been given a welcome boost thanks to money raised at this year’s Brighouse Charity Gala.

At its annual general meeting, chairman Peter Charles paid tribute to Bob Parker, procession chairman, who died in September.

Discussions and preparations are already taking place for the 2015 event, which will be the 50th charity gala.

However, Mr Charles said that new volunteers to serve on sub-committees and help with the running of the gala are needed if it is to go ahead in 2015. Full support and guidance will be given to new committee members.

Zoe Parker, daughter of Bob Parker, has volunteered to take on the role of procession chairman.

Salma Kalsoom, gala secretary, said: “The weather was not very kind, with rain on the morning of gala day making people stay away from Wellholme Park. For those who did attend there was variety of attractions to keep families entertained.

“Although the money collected on the procession was higher than in previous years, the takings on the gates were down by 50 per cent. This decrease has had an impact on the enhancement given to charities, which this year was 30 per cent.”
