The winners of the Rastrick Big Local song competition have been announced.

School teacher Jill Marsh and poet Robbie Dance - ‘of Rastrick’ have been picked by the judging panel for the competition.

The judges had a hard choice but finally decided to combine both of their efforts to make the following verse.

‘I wanna look to the future and learn from the past

Millers Oils and Charles Woods are both built to last

With an Echo from Highfields it’s time to get vocal

Let’s all sing the praises of Rastrick Big Local’.

The duo will feature in the DVD of the song with singer songwriter Roger Davies. It will be launched at Rastrick High School on October 25.

Christine Beal said they were delighted by the number of entries. “We were also really impressed by the standard because we set quite a challenge. But everyone raised it fantastically and we want to thank everyone that took the trouble to enter.

“We are still looking for extras for the DVD and we are excited about it all coming together.”

The organisers have contacted all nine Rastrick schools to take part in the DVD by joining Peter to sing the song. “We have contacted them all to send their choirs to be part of the DVD hopefully in September,” she said. “The DVD is being put together by two students from Rastrick High School and it will include Roger singing the song alone, with the choir and then the DVD with people and groups from the Rastrick area.

“Anyone that would like to be part of it can contact Adrian Hartshorn who is helping to put it all together.

“We also intend on getting students from all the schools involved to design the cover of the DVD.”
