TWO young brothers and rising stars in Grasstrack Racing have been given a welcome boost thanks to Brighouse businesses.

Harry and Sam McGurk, from Bradford Road, Wyke, have received new backing from Mark Town from Town Kitchens, Thornhill Briggs Working Men’s Club and Dennis Mackerel from DM Landscapes.

Their support has seen the pair supplied with new race suits and helps dad Mark with the maintenance of the bikes. It will also allow Harry to compete in more classes - the Auto Cadets, Cadets and MX65.

Mum Emma McGurk said the sponsors came forward from seeing an article about Harry in the Brighouse Echo. “The money has really helped the boys,” she said. “It’s great in these economic times with people struggling businesses are still willing to invest.

“It has helped with new equipment for Harry and Sam and with the travel expenses. We are really enjoying the season so far.

“The boys have practised whenever they could during the closed season and it has paid off with their podium finishes.”

Eight-year-old Harry, in his second season, finished first at Donnington Park, in March, in the Auto Cadet Class.

Hot on the heels of his older brother is Sam, six, as he finished top in his first ever meeting at Bristol Motor Cycle Club and finished fourth in the same race as Harry at Donnington.

Last year in the 21 races Harry competed in, he secured 19 podiums, seven victories, seven runner ups spots and five third places.

Harry and Sam will be competing in there local club meeting for Yorkshire Grasstrack Junior Club on June 17 at Mirfield. For more information visit www.yorkshiregrasstrack.co.uk
