A dentist who has practised in Rastrick for 25 years has been given three reasons to smile.

Chris Anderson, 52, is celebrating after his son recently started work as a dentist, his practice was acknowledged as a foundation training centre and a new state-of-the-art surgery was opened.

Mr Anderson, who owns Rastrick Dental Surgery on Church Street, said he had seen a lot of changes since he first bought the practice.

“I am treating third generation patients now,” he said. “People I used to treat as children are now coming in with their own children, that’s quite scary.”

Mr Anderson’s son, Christopher, 28, has worked regularly at the practice since Easter, and Chris hopes that he will continue the family business one day.

He graduated as a dental surgeon five years ago from the dental institute at Leeds University, the same place as his father.

It was Christopher who suggested Chris should apply for the practice to be awarded the prestigious status as a Yorkshire Deanry’s foundation training centre.

It means that a newly-qualified dentist, Nabeel Mughal, who has recently graduated from the University of Sheffield’s dentist hospital, will work at the practice for one year.

As a result, new NHS patients are being accepted at the surgery, under the care of Mr Mughal.
