JOBS could be created in Brighouse after a buyer was found for one of the best-known businesses in the town.
Norwood Interiors, which has a showroom at Spring Street Studios, has had a difficult few months of trading and went into administration on August 11.
The company, which also has a site at Kirkstall in Leeds, was founded in 1985 and installs kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.
Now My House Group has agreed to buy the main part of the business for an undisclosed sum. Twenty showroom jobs have been saved but 13 people have lost their job in the warehousing and distribution department in Leeds.
The deal was worked out by insolvency experts at Clough Corporate Solutions, part of chartered accountants Clough and Company of Cleckheaton.
My House Group, based in Macclesfield, owns a wide range of other nationwide home improvement companies including Christies Kitchens, window and door firm Weatherseal and home maintenance company Job Worth Doing.
Administrator Chris Wood said: “Norwood is a well-known name in Yorkshire and has been around for more than 25 years so we are delighted to have found a buyer to take over the company’s showrooms. Although Norwood has suffered in the recession it still has a fantastic reputation and should complement the companies within My House Group.”
Norwood Interiors’ managing director Ronnie Potts joined in 1993 and, together with founder Geoff Smith, helped to triple business through the 1990s and won numerous industry awards. The company was named Master Kitchen Retailer of the Year in 2005 and 2006.
Mr Potts said: “The good name and reputation of Norwood will remain unchanged. It has been a difficult few months and we had to be pragmatic and find a way to carry the business forward. We have three showroom staff and a service engineer in Brighouse and we hope that more jobs could be created in the long run.”
Darren Cornwall, chief financial officer at My House Group, said Norwood Interiors was a strong brand with a reputation for quality products and great customer service.
“I’m sure we can make the business successful again. Incorporating the company into My House Group will help us do this by positioning it alongside several related businesses that are all leading firms in their respective area and markets.
“This will offer a wide range of cross-selling opportunities and enable Norwoos to take advantage of the group’s substantial marketing weight which will all help to boost sales.”
