A children’s hospice and Brighouse hotel are creating their own version of the traditional student ‘Raising And Giving’ week.

University students typically undertake RAG week before the start of the new term. But now Waterfront Lodge Hotel is aiming to turn rags into cash for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

Fiona Walker, hotel manager, said: “We refresh the hotel’s linen regularly and didn’t want to just throw away the old sheets and towels. I approached Jason at the hospice to see if it was useful to donate it to them as rags.”

The charity receives £80 per tonne of linen and fabric donated.

Jason Costello, of the hospice, said: “We’re putting our own spin on RAG week and encouraging people to ‘Recycle & Give’!

“Our shops welcome all donations that will make fantastic merchandise. However, people don’t realise they can also donate rags, such as old linen, towels and clothes.”

In the run up to Christmas, the shops especially welcome good quality toys. “It’s a fantastic way to support the hospice,” said Jason. “Simply take good quality donations, along with rags (bagged and marked as rags) into your local Forget Me Not shop. Don’t just throw it away, Recycle & Give!”
