Volunteers and businesses have rallied round in preparation to give the Calder and Hebble Navigation Canal a spring clean.
The event on Sunday April 14 will be the fourth one organised by Lidia Shinwell of Prego Italian Cafe and Restaurant and the Waterfront Lodge Hotel.
“As more and more people hear about the clean up, we are getting more support, which means we achieve more each time”, said Lidia.
“The aim of this clear up is to tackle the area opposite Bethel Street car park, which belongs to Younger Homes as this is a prominent area most visible to visitors and residents in the town.
“So far we are expecting over 40 volunteers, which shows fantastic support and enthusiasm.
“It is a fantastic way to put a few hours on a Sunday morning to great use. Everyone who has volunteered in the past has enjoyed the event and said they wanted to take part again.”
The clear up, which starts at 10am is being supported by The Canal and River Trust (formerly British Waterways), Pennine Canoe Club, Calder Future, the Calder Navigation Society, the Waterfront Lodge Hotel and Prego Restaurant.
Certificates for children under 16-years-old will be presented and in the past have contributed to Brownie badges and Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Anyone wanting to volunteer can register via 01484 715566, firstname.lastname@example.org or @LidiaPrego.
