PLANNING agents behind a proposed housing development at the former Badger Hill Cricket ground, Rastrick, say that residents will be consulted over the proposals.
The project could see 780 houses built on the former leased ground of Badger Hill Cricket Club on Dewsbury Road, behind the Sun Inn pub.
Thornhill Estates, who own the land, have appointed York-based planning agents Savills, to help with any possible development.
Paul Ainscough, of Savills, said that any future plans for the site will see meetings arranged with residents and anyone interested about the project.
“Thornhill Estates has been in discussion with Calderdale over how its landholdings can help with local requirements for housing and employment,” said Mr Ainscough. “At this stage there are no detailed plans for this particular site. If plans are brought forward, then a consultation process will be instigated with local residents and any other interested parties.
“The estate has also been working with Badger Hills Cricket Club to provide it with a new lease for the last five years. Sadly, the club has decided to disband.”
A number of areas in Rastrick and Brighouse have been identified as potential sites for housing developments under the Local Plan.
More than 2,000 houses have to be built over the next 15 years in Brighouse, Rastrick, Hipperholme, Lightcliffe, Bailiff Bridge and Clifton, 45 per cent of them will be in green belt, according to the Calderdale Local Plan, which councillors have now cleared for consultation.
Calderdale Council is urging people to get involved in shaping the future of the borough. Views will help shape the Calderdale Local Plan, which sets out where the land for new homes and new jobs will be located and what other facilities, such as schools and roads, are required over the next 20 years.
A draft plan will be put together which will be submitted to the Secretary of State for examination next year.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Environment, Councillor Barry Collins, said: “I urge people to get involved in this consultation because it will set out how we will deal with future development in Calderdale.
“It is important we plan for new homes, jobs and services, but also that we protect the countryside and character of our towns and villages which give Calderdale its identity.
“We must also make sure that new development works for us by ensuring it is in the right place at the right time, and provides the right kind of benefits such as new schools, improved roads or better shops.
“Your views on these big issues are really important to us.”
