Councillors are hoping to bring new plans for Hipperholme crossroads forward in the near future.

However questions were raised by one group over whether a compulsory purchase order (CPO) was in place for land needed for the scheme.

Bob Horne, of Hipperholme Preservation Society, asked Calderdale Council’s cabinet on Monday whether the scheme was dependent on obtaining land from Christ Church and the Whitehall Inn.

Council leader Tim Swift said: “We are working on a new scheme and hope to bring those plans forward in the near future.”

Mr Horne said: “My real aim was to get a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to the question. Either it is contemplated or it isn’t.

“The absence of a ‘No’ response leads me to believe a CPO is being considered, without elected members being involved in the debate, or even informed.”
