The Building Industry Award, sponsored by the Brighouse Echo, was introduced last year.

Judges were looking for any businesses with connections to the building industry.

Brighouse Echo news editor Dominic Brown presented the award to Energy Unique Ltd.

Based in Bailiff Bridge, the company is a multi-disciplinary consulting engineering practice working within the mechanical and electrical building services sector.

Formed in February 2010, it looks to embrace new technologies, legislation and working practices.

Its emphasis is to provide a high quality personalised service to clients with creative and innovative design solutions, delivered at a reasonable price.

Host Clare Frisby said: “The business is seeing steady growth through repeat business from existing clients, as well as receiving new enquiries through recommendations and referrals.

“Its honest and down to earth attitude, attention to detail and strong technical focus is earning it a sound reputation within the industry and has completed many projects in schools, offices, hospitals, social housing and many other buildings throughout Calderdale and further afield.”

Ashley Wood, of Energy Unique Ltd, said: “The job is easy, thanks to the people I get to work with.

“The business has come a long way from when I started it from my living room table and the uncertainty in the industry.

“We now have a brilliant team. We would not have been able to do it without the support of our partners.”

Also shortlisted were Arkoni and Naylor Myers.

Arkoni offers a full metal-working service encompassing design, manufacture, refinishing and installation service.

The company employs more than 40 people, with plans to increase recruitment.

Naylor Myers prides itself on being able to offer its customers a vast range of building materials and associated products through its network of ten branches, including one at Brighouse.

It has staff with knowledge and long service in the industry, together with expert support from the specialist associate businesses.
