The Small to Medium Sized Business of the Year Award, sponsored by main sponsor Kirklees College, brings in firms which have a turnover of less than £5 million and fewer than 50 employees.

The judges were looking for small companies which had a spark of innovation and an appetite for success.

This was a hotly contested category and reflected the diversity of businesses in the Brighouse area.

June Durrant, of sponsor Kirklees College, presented the award to the winner - Projex Solutions.

Projex Solutions is an engineering design and project management company which began trading in 2007.

Due to its expansion, it moved to new premises in Brighouse to allow for continued growth and expansion with its mission of providing first class design and development.

Host Clare Frisby said: “The judging panel decided the business has proved to be a welcome addition to the town since moving to St Peg’s House in 2012, and continuing the positive reputation Brighouse has of becoming an area companies want to move to. Projex Solutions has continued to successfully win a number of contracts, which has subsequently increased its staff numbers to 12 and is now currently recruiting an additional engineering apprentice and an administration/business support role and predicting further employment for design engineers, all of which is bringing added value to the Brighouse area.”

Jamie Ashton, of Projex Solutions, said: “This is fantastic.

“We came last year and decided we would do it again this year.

“It shows how far we have come in that 12 months.

“We have got a great team and are trying to build on that.”

Also shortlisted were Lattitude 7, Thaal restaurant, Arrow Coach Travel and Halifax Fan Limited.

Established by Martin Haigh, Lattitude 7 was established to provide focused training in the area of personal development in businesses. During three-and-a-half years in business, he has written and delivered programmes for local, national and international organisations.

Thaal restaurant offers a fantastic atmosphere, great food and, above all, a great customer experience.

Arrow Coach Travel is increasing its customer base in both the private hire sector and the tour and excursion programme, running over 250 excursions and short breaks in 2013, carrying over 12,000 passengers.

Due to the extremely hard work and dedication of staff, Halifax Fan Limited has become an international supplier of fans to customers as far afield as China and is now working around the clock to meet demands for the goods produced.
