A Brighouse actor is taking part in a quirky challenge to fuel a 4x4 charity adventure to Gibraltar - starting with £10 of diesel and the support of celebrities along the route.
Dan Coll, 53, set off from Hebden Bridge, on Sunday, with acting pal Dan Carey, 44, of Hebden Bridge, on a ten day trip in a Land Rover to raise money for Samaritans - a charity close to Dan’s heart after suffering with depression recently.
The Middle Aged Road Trip is being backed by a host of celebrities including former Coronation Street star Kevin Kenneddy, actor Dean Sullivan and Blue Peter celebrity Peter Purves along with a host of other willing celebrities who are taking part in challenges along the route to help raise cash to fuel the trip and to contribute to the actors chosen charity.
Along the way, they will call in at Manchester, Dover, Paris, Spain, before arriving at their final destination.
Their grand finale will culminate in a live show at Gibraltar’s Mackintosh Theatre where the actors, along with celebrity guests, will combine cooking, singing, comedy and reflect on their recent adventure - the highs, the lows and the whole point of it - on October 15.
For those wishing to view at home, the show will be streamed live online at themiddleagedroadtrip.com
Dan Coll, who has recently appeared in the film Northern Soul, said: “Aside from the mad cap daftness of it all, there is a serious motive behind the driving force of our adventure.
“The Samaritans really hepled me when I’ve been at my lowest ebb - it’s a fantastic charity and we want to show our support,” he said.
The road trip is evey middle aged man’s dream, said Mr Coll.
The two actors have worked together over the years and it is something they’ve both dreamed of achieving for some time.
On Tuesday, the duo performed in Paris with singer Victoria Aitken and yesterday, they were meeting with Dean Sullivan where they were heading for Barcelona, Spain.
