ACCLAIMED actress Prunella Scales – best-known as Sybil in the classic comedy 'Fawlty Towers' – is heading the line-up of entertainment at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield, this autumn.
Also set to light up the stage are Yorkshire poets Simon Armitage and Ian McMillan, comedians John Shuttleworth and Tim Minchin and theatre company Northern Broadsides.
But comedy fans hoping to get tickets for the cult comedy 'Mighty Boosh' on September 29 and 30 will be disappointed – the show sold out back in March as soon as tickets went on sale.
Prunella Scales, who is married to actor Timothy West, is in the cast of 'Gertrude's Secret', a series of dramatic and darkly funny stories told through moving monologues, which is at the LBT on September 15 to 16.
Huddersfield poet Simon Armitage's translation of the 600-year-old classic 'Sir Gerwain and the Green Knight' has been adapted for the stage by New Perspectives Theatre Company and will be presented from October 23 to 25. Ian McMillan will perform 'Talking Myself Home' from his book of poems on November 17 and Halifax theatre company Northern Broadsides will present Dario Fo's hilarious politcal satire 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist' from December 3 to 6.
Actor Philip Madoc along with Tom Butcher of 'The Bill' and Zoie Kennedy of 'The Royal' will star in Middle Ground Theatre Company's 'The Holly and the Ivy', the tale of a family get together in the festive season that exposes regrets and secrets, from December 12 to 14.
Musical highlights include the Albion Band with a Christmas special, flamenco guitarist Juan Martin and Mid Wales Opera with 'The Tales of Hoffman' and there will be plenty of shows for children.
