INDIANA Jones, a pirate and Little Red Riding Hood complete with the Big Bad Wolf were among the entries in this year's fancy dress competition sponsored by the Brighouse Echo.
Organiser Mrs Connie Taylforth said everyone had entered into the spirit of the event and made a huge effort with their costumes.

Six-year-old Ben Rhodes, from Bradford, was at the gala with his mum Traci Tillett.

“We always enjoy coming to Brighouse Gala,” said his mum. “Ben had a go in the fancy dress last year as well.”

Louie Holland, nine, made a last minute decision to enter and came up with his Indiana Jones costume on the day of the gala and Sharon Crosswaite, who was supporting her three-year-old daughter Isabella, had made a special effort as the wolf with Little Red Riding Hood. The duo are regulars at the gala.

Mrs Taylforth, who co-ordinates the event, said she was pleased with the people who had dressed up to take part.

“A lot of people dress up to join the walking groups,” she said. “But we are always pleased to see entries in the fancy dress competition.”

Editor of the Echo, Mr Stephen Firth presented the winners with cash prizes and a trophy. They were: Nine and over, Louie Holland (Indiana Jones); five to eight-years: Ben Rhodes (pirate); age up to four: Isabella and Sharon Crosswaite, (Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf).

A special prize was awarded to the youngest competitor Kaitlin Clay, three, who was dressed as a princess and the Donna Reaney Trophy was presented to the overall winners Isabella and Sharon Crosswaite.
