A CONTROVERSIAL piece of land at Carr Green, next to Rastrick Cemetery – is set to go under the auctioneer's hammer again.
The small plot of land – seen by some Rastrick residents as one of the most contentious sites in Calderdale – has a long history. Calderdale Council withdrew the land from sale on three occasions due to pressure from people in the community before it
was finally sold off.

The buyers, Royalle Estates, of Manchester, faced strong opposition from residents when they sought planning permission for houses on the site. They were delighted at the end of last year when an appeal was rejected after Royalle Estates appealed against Calderdale Council’s decision.

Ward councillor Paul Rogan now wants to warn prospective buyers about the history of the land. He said when the historic barn on the land was first demolished there was an outcry when bats and other wildlife were destroyed without proper checks and studies being carried out.

“Two planning applications were refused after a massive outcry,” said Coun Rogan (Eng/Dem, Rastrick). “I hope any prospective buyers make themselves aware of the history of this small but highly contentious parcel of land before handing over good money for it.”

Planning references, which can be found by searching ‘Royalle Estates’ in the council’s planning search database, are 07/01389 and 06/01587. The appeal reference is APP/ A4710/A/07/2045258WF.
