BRIGHOUSE couple Tony and Freda Hiley will be in the spotlight from tonight (Thursday) when they play Captain Mainwaring and Mrs Pike in 'Dad's Army'.
The couple are members of Cleckheaton and Spenborough Amateur Operatic Society, which is presenting the show to celebrate 40 years of the popular TV series.
Mrs Hiley, who is the pianist for the Third Age Singers in Brighouse, the Westfield Male Voice Choir in Wyke and the St John's Pantomime Society in Rastrick, became involved with the amateur operatic society about five years ago. "I was asked to play for their auditions because the regular pianist had trapped their fingers in a car door," she said. "After that I was asked to play for the 'King and I', and I now play for their rehearsals and shows." Captain Mainwaring is Mr Hiley's biggest role so far – last year he played the Colonel in the society's production of 'Allo Allo'.
The show is on for three nights at Cleckheaton Town Hall. For tickets, priced from £6 to £9 plus concessions, and to check availability call Eileen Feltwell on 01274 877828.
