More than 800 people crowded into the hospice grounds to enjoy games, entertainment and refreshments. Around £7,000 was raised on the day and it is hoped the total will eventually reach £10,000.

The party was opened by ‘Coron-ation Street’ actor Scott Wright, who played Sam Kingston, and the guests included the Mayor of Calderdale, Coun Arshad Mahm-ood.

Neil Hurst, a regular contributor to Overgate’s fund-raising events, entertained party-goers with songs and comedy, and other acts included Egyptian belly-dancers, traditional Irish dancers and line dancers.

The ice-cream parlour did a roaring trade and favourite games and stalls including the tombola, human fruit machine, bouncy castle, face-painting and raffles, were kept busy all afternoon.

The event was organised by Faye Henderson, of Overgate’s fund-raising team, with her mum Kathryn Haigh and baby daughter Evie joining the committee of volunteers to help on the day.

Laura Ramsden, of the fund-raising team, said: “The weather was superb and we had a wonderful day. It was great to see so many people out enjoying the stalls and the sunshine.”
