SUCCESSFUL school gardens, community planting and on-going work in Brighouse's parks and gardens will be shown to Yorkshire in Bloom judges when they come to Brighouse on Tuesday.
Green-fingered pupils at Field Lane Junior and Infant School, Rastrick, have played a major part in the annual event by helping design a winning flowerbed in Wellholme Park, Brighouse.
Children at Brighouse schools were invited to take part in the competition by the 3Bs group, who put Brighouse forward for the Yorkshire in Bloom contest.A design drawn up by eight-year-old Charlie Moran was chosen as the winner and Charlie's design has now been planted up by Calderdale Council's parks staff and a plaque has been placed in the park acknowledging Charlie's contribution.
Mr Bill Terry, a member of the 3Bs, visited the school to hand over a cheque for £250 which the school has used to buy gardening equipment.
The school garden, which is tended by the out-of-school gardening club and volunteers, includes vegetables and a selection of summer blooms.
Mr Terry praised the work done by the school and said it would be included in the information outlined to the Yorkshire in Bloom judges.
