AWARD-WINNING bodybuilder Andrew Merrifield has added to his string of successes.
He was runner-up in the FAME World Natural Bodybuilding Championships held in Toronto, Canada, beating competitors from around the globe.
Andrew, 32, who lives in Rastrick and is a former pupil of Rastrick High School, was inspired to get into the sport as a youngster after reading superhero comics and wanting to look like 'The Incredible Hulk'.
By the age of 15 he was training seriously. Becoming disenchanted with the way many athletes used drugs to enhance their physique, he took up natural bodybuilding, where competitors are regularly tested for banned substances such as steroids.
Andrew, who took part in his first contest 10 years ago, has won numerous events including the British Natural Bodybuilding Federation's Lightweight Class, Best Poser and Best Wheels – or Best Legs – awards. He was also named the National Amateur Bodybuilding Association's Mr Yorkshire.
Away from competing, Andrew owns Solid Bodies in the Piece Hall, Halifax.
"I am doing online diets for many people around the world and that is keeping me really busy," he said. "I have been guest posing around the UK at bodybuilding shows and have been asked to guest pose in California at a natural bodybuilding show – my childhood dreams are finally starting to come true.
"I would love to make a new training DVD. It would be great if I could get the production filmed at Gold's Gym in California and on Muscle Beach but funding is the issue, so if there are any companies that would like to fund me in any way or sponsor me I would be very grateful."
Andrew, who is also known as Mezza, recently released a three-disc DVD collection called "Mezza – Ultimate Natural". It includes posing displays, workouts and advice on nutrition and details can be found on his website
