THE success of children's achievements at The Preparatory School, Lightcliffe, were celebrated during an awards ceremony.
Head teacher Mrs Louise Reynolds said: "At Lightcliffe we love to celebrate. All our children's successes in and out of school are important to us. Every week we hold an achievement assembly on a Friday afternoon to celebrate and share our children's weekly successes. These can be things the children have achieved in the classroom or at home."
She said the trophies won during the ceremony at the Square Chapel in Halifax would take pride of place in a display case in the school's new library and that each winner would also have their own keepsake to take home.
There was a range of awards given out to recognise achievements in sport, music, science, English, maths, French, art and other special awards which included the Courtesy Award given to Holly Beattie and The Phillip Watkins Award for contribution to school which was presented to Sophie Doherty.
Head boy Jack Barraclough said: "I was so shocked when I found out I was head boy last year, in fact I still can't quite believe it. My mum was so proud and told everyone she knew. I have had a wonderful time as head boy. I remember being on the interview panel when Mrs Reynolds came for the job of head teacher, I was so pleased when I found out she had been given the job."
Head girl Laura Fisher said: "Thank you to all of the teachers and staff who have given me such wonderful experiences and opportunities, I know the improvements to the school building will benefit all of my friends and my sister Olivia who is in Form Three. Thank you again for making each day special."
There were various performances including a poetry recital, a story about the Rainbow People, a team-building dance and a performance of 'Playground Friends'.
