THE place was really rocking when "Jiving" Jeff Greenwood held a rock 'n'roll evening at the Lightcliffe Club.
For a treat he had a live band performing – the Johnny Storm Band.
Jeff saw the band at a party last year and found out that they used to gig in the 1970s. When they were at one of the members' 50th birthday parties they had an impromptu jam session, thought it was fun and decided to join the circuit once more

"We had a great night," said Jeff. "Everybody enjoyed it and the band was great. I will definitely hold another band night in about April next year.

The evening started with Jiving Jeff on the decks then the band played their first set. They broke for a raffle before the band's final set. Jeff then wrapped up the evening with more music from his vast record collection.

The rock and roll nights will return in the New Year at the club. If you can't wait that long, Jeff will be at his regular monthly spot at The Barge, Brighouse, on Sunday, December 20, from 1pm to 4pm.

  • TONIGHT'S (Thursday) jam session at The Barge, Brighouse, is with Simon. On Friday the spotlight shines on rock band Storm then on Saturday it's the Hootchie Coochie Band.

  • Moving up to the Queen Victoria, Northowram, Julian and Michelle Hadala's other pub and manager Laura Hamilton welcomes The Savages on Friday night followed on Saturday by the Chantel McGregor Band.

NICK Carter at the Commercial, Gooder Lane, Brighouse, tells me that on Sunday, December 20, from 3pm to 7pm there will be entertainment by Chris Ball, an Irish country keyboard accordion player. Nick hopes to stage similar events every other Sunday after Christmas.

This Friday the pub welcomes popular local singer Katie G, who sings songs from all eras, then on Saturday Pete Crosby will be in the spotlight. Friday, December 18, sees the return of acoustic duo Chloe and Kennedy followed on Saturday by Pete Crosby.

On New Year's Eve there will be a Hollywood/film stars or character themed fancy dress party with karaoke.

  • RESERVATIONS and conference manager at the Holiday Inn, Brighouse, Alla Langford tells me there are still some places available for the New Year's Eve celebration. It is £50 per person for a gala dinner and disco.

  • In the new year there will be an offer on the Sunday lunches. In January and February it is two for the price of one, priced at £12.95 per person, and including tea or coffee.

Last week the Holday Inn held the December Ladies Who Lunch event in conjunction with the West Yorkshire Forget-Me-Not Trust. The ladies tucked into a two-course Christmas lunch with entertainment.

  • BRENDA Marsh, stewardess at the Rastrick Cricket Club, tells me the club is hosting a family quiz night on December 18.

  • TCLAIRE and Eddie Geater at the Red Rooster, Brookfoot, have been busy lining up a fun-packed series of events for the festive season.
It starts this Saturday with a visit by the St Anne's Choir from 5.30pm.
On December 16 it's the annual Christmas quiz with a free supper and raffle, all starting from 9pm. On December 17, it's the Christmas curry night. It's £3 for curry and a naan bread.

On December 19, it's the pub's Christmas party over teatime and there will be presents for the children, and the regulars who bring their dogs will receive a treat for their pets.

It's band day on the 20th with Bruce's Hootchie Coochie Band from 3.30pm.

On Christmas Day the pub will be open from noon to 3pm.

To see the New Year in, there's a black tie event on New Year's Eve. On New Year's Day the pub will be open from noon for "hair of the dog".

  • STEVE Hargreaves at the Clough House, Rastrick, is still taking bookings for the pub's Christmas fare menu. It's priced at £18.95 per person, and as well as the usual turkey with all the trimmings a whole partridge is on the menu. This menu will be served up until Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day the pub will be open for drinking only between noon and 3pm.

  • On New Year's Eve there will be a disco and karaoke with Fish who has hosted the night at the pub for the past couple of years.
