THE memories came rock 'n' rolling back when four friends who formed the Brighouse band Delirium in the 1970s got together for the first time in 32 years.
The mates, who were all teenagers when they played their first gig at the Victoria Youth Club in 1975, brought back the good times when they reminisced over a meal at The Street restaurant in Brighouse.

John Nasey, on bass, Martin Horner, on rhythm guitar and vocals, Ged Tuke on lead guitar and vocals and Steve Carter on drums were familiar figures on the music scene in Brighouse and Huddersfield from 1974 to 1977.

But when the band broke up, the members lost touch and went their separate ways – until drummer Steve Carter decided the time was right for a reunion.

"We had a great time when we were in the band.

"We rehearsed two or three nights a week and then we were out giving gigs at weekends.

"We used to drive around in my Mark 1 Cortina and Martin's dad's Skoda.

"We were really into Prog rock and bands like Yes and Genesis but their music was difficult to play so we used to concentrate on cover versions of TRex, David Bowie and Wings as well as some of our own songs.

"We had our own fans who used to follow us round and we just loved the music and the camaraderie," said Steve.

John Nasey and Steve now live on the island of Jersey and Steve is married to Christine, sister of John's wife, Julie.

"John and I often thought about the other lads and what they might be doing. When we came back to Yorkshire to see a concert by Yes, we decided it was the right time to try and meet up.

"It was quite difficult tracking the other two down. Ged wasn't too bad because he has an unusual surname but it was harder with Martin.

"I tried Friends Reunited with no luck but then I remembered that Martin was a Huddersfield Town fan so I asked for an announcement to be made over the PA system at the next home game.

"He was a bit shocked but really pleased to get in touch."

The four friends got together on November 21 – 32 years to the day since their first appearance at the youth club – and Steve's sister Julie Taylor, who lives in Brighouse, made a cake for the occasion.

"The five hours we were together just sped by, there were so many memories to catch up on.

"We all still dabble in music but mainly going to watch others play.

"I don't think we'll be doing a reunion tour like Take That but we might try and get together to play for friends and family in the future," said Steve.
