Raising cash for Children In Need

editorial image

The BBCs Children in Need telethon programme has been an annual event since 1980 and has raised over £600 million.

This format of fund raising was the first of its kind for a single programme television programme to last all evening – 7.30pm through to 2am.

People are encouraged to raise money for the event in what ever way they can. Whether it be a marathon sitting in a bath of cold beans or like these two ladies who are out fund raising in Brighouse town centre. They are members of Brighouse Ladies’ Circle and the child in the push chair who is probably wondering ‘what’s my mum dressed up like that for…’

My source of the photograph does not give the ladies names so if you are still around or the youngster in the push chair who could be mid 20 by now, please step forward.

This photograph dated November 17, 1989, captures the spirit of the annual marathon effort.
