St Andrew’s Junior School, Brighouse, in June 1991 when the Mayor Tom McElroy and Mayoress made one of the many visits the Mayor and/or Mayoress will make in their term of office.
The Mayor, having worked in industry, is obviously taken with the skills of these young engineers of the future.
Sadly Councillor McElroy passed away in 2006 and was described as a man once seen, never forgotten.
His friendly, down-to-earth attitude and great sense of humour meant that people found him easy to approach and talk to, just as I am sure these children found.
It is pleasing to see him and the Mayoress sitting with the children to maintain eye contact at their level rather than standing over them.
