A top Brighouse hairdresser has helped raise £4,800 for Overgate Hospice, styling hair for a ladies fashion show at a charity evening at Bertie’s Banqueting Suite in Elland.

Gary Taylor, of Edward and co Hairdressers, transformed the hair of 14 volunteer models who wore clothes from the local Overgate Hospice charity shop. He was assisted by his team of Heather Taylor, Emma Mitchell, Pamela Adamson and Annabelle Taylor.

The former North Western Hairdresser of the year also demonstrated the specialist ‘Hair Peace’ service that he offers in the salon. It is available to medical hair loss sufferers and creates bespoke wigs and hair pieces to conceal bald patches.

Gary said: “Our aim is to make medical hair loss a less taboo subject so that the people who really need it can come forward to us.”

The fashion show featured entertainment from magician and compere, John Banbury and money raised will be donated to Overgate Hospice’s day care and respite centre which was set up to provide patients and their carers with a retreat.

The cause is one close to Gary and the stylists’ hearts. They said they believe that life should be made as comfortable and enjoyable as possible for those suffering with poor health and Overgate Hospice is a place they have always supported as a salon.

“The crowds were fantastic and it was a really great evening,” said Gary.
