Vibrant look at the seasons

The colour and vibrancy of the changing seasons is reflected in the first exhibition of the year at the Harrison Lord gallery in Brighouse.
Headlined by one of the gallery’s favourite artists Mike Jones, the Four Seasons exhibition runs until March 2.
The gallery is showcasing Mike Jones’s vibrant, impressionistic landscapes. He is exhibiting 17 new pieces, characterised by his seemingly effortless brush-strokes and accomplished use of light and shadow.
Also on show will be ten original new pieces by south Yorkshire artist John Connolly, whose work is popular in the Harrison Lord gallery and has sold to collectors in the UK, Europe, America, Australia and the Middle East.
His new work shows a varied collection of subjects, from sunny warm meadows to towering mountains and woodland scenes.

He said: “I have a keen interest in landscape painting. The vast sweeping horizons of the Derbyshire Peak District, the rugged terrain and ever-changing light over Cumbria, North Yorkshire Moors and the shorelines of Cornwall all provide me with a rich variety of subject matter”
Self-taught artist Steve McLoughlin’s vast and atmospheric beach scenes are well-worth viewing. His paintings draw on a delicate palette of pastels and picturesque imagery with a contemporary edge.
In contrast gallery newcomer Stuart Ellis is showing his vivid representations of the landscape. There will also be new work from Halifax watercolour specialist Paul Talbot-Greaves, Julian Mason and Clare Haley.
Gallery owner Stephen Lord said: “The exhibition came about because we have built up a large portfolio of artists and it occurred to us that many of them reflected the seasons in their work.
“It seemed a good idea to bring them all together in an exhibition that featured the landscape through the changing year.
“Some of them are so new that they were painted in the snow a couple of weeks ago!”
Future exhibitions this year will include work by Clifton artist Neville Fleetwood, Sheffield’s Phil Lockwood, Mark Sofilas and Susan Lincoln.
The gallery will host its Contemporary Art Show from March 16 to April 6 and Yorkshire artist’s Sue Nicol’s paintings of seascapes and harbours will be on view from April 20 to May 11.
