RASTRICK student Lydia Wyatt has been offered one of just six places available places in the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain.

Lydia, 13, competed against hundreds who applied across the country to be offered the place in Great Britain’s premier symphony orchestra for children.

This follows another successful achievement because in September Lydia auditioned for the Halle Youth Orchestra and was successful.

She is the youngest member of the orchestra which offers a unique opportunity to local young musicians to regularly experience the challenge of rehearsing and performing symphonic music to a very high standard.

Lydia attends rehearsals every Sunday in Manchester and performs at the Bridgewater Hall. She will be performing at the Royal Opera House with them in the summer.

Her mum Helen said she had done amazingly well. “The audition for the National Children’s Orchestra was quite literally all over the country so to get accepted is a great achievement.

“Lydia has worked extremely hard and it has paid off. It is outstanding really considering the orchestra travelled the whole country to audition people especially because she plays the flute which is a very common instrument making it twice as hard to get through.”

Over the next 12 months Lydia will travel to Dorset London, Birmingham and she is also playing in Berkshire and Bristol.

“She just works very hard. She is doing really well at Rastrick High . She just works. She has got a mentality that if you want to do well then you have got to work at it,” said Helen. “We are very proud of her. She seems to set herself challenges and she loves performing. So it is all to her own credit.”
