Band and choir in harmony for the hospice

THE experience of Yorkshire and National Champion brass band Brighouse and Rastrick will combine with the youth of Halifax Young Singers in a concert to raise funds for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

The concert will be at Huddersfield Town Hall on Saturday, January 28 at 7.30pm.

By popular demand, B & R will be led by their charismatic associate conductor Dr Chris Davis who recently retired as principal conductor of the Royal Marines.

The band’s programme for the concert will feature many favourites including ‘Force of Destiny’, ‘Celtic Fusion’, the theme to ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ and Brodsky’s haunting ‘I’ll Walk with God’.

The young choir, now in its 20th season, will be conducted by Lynn Hudson. Halifax Young Singers have raised more than £30,000 for local charities with their concerts and won numerous prizes at music festivals around the country.

The choir has 90 members and welcomes singers from year 5 to school leaving age.

Last year they brought home three awards from the Eskdale Festival of the Arts in Whitby and when they last appeared in the Mrs Sunderland Festival in Huddersfield, they not only won the Young People’s Choir award but also the Arthur Rooke Trophy for outstanding performance in the junior choral classes.

The concert has been organised by the Mayor of Kirklees, Coun Eric Firth, who is aiming to raise £100,000 for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice during his year in office.

He said: “Although the hospice has now been built, they still need lots of money to finish it off and keep it running.”

Tickets for the concert are available from Kirklees ticket outlets on 01484 223200.
