Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band will represent Yorkshire in the National Championships at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

The band, together with 12 other Championships Section brass bands, competed in the Yorkshire Brass Band Championships at Bradford’s St George’s Hall.

Conducted by Prof David King they finished in second place behind Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band. Both bands and Grimethorpe Colliery Band will now represent Yorkshire in October.

The band’s soprano cornet player Andy Bannister was awarded the best instrumentalist prize for his outstanding playing during the band’s performance of the test piece. He won the Eddie Noble trophy which was donated to the contest a number of years ago in memory of Mr Noble who was known as ‘Mr B and R’ in recognition of his 55 years of service to the band.

President Paul Beaumont said: “We are extremely pleased for Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band who richly deserved the first place for their excellent performance. Congratulations also to Philip McCann their musical director. We are pleased and satisfied with our second position and look forward to representing the county.”

Clifton and Lightcliffe Band was sixth in the first section and Elland Silver Band were runners-up in the second section. Clifton and Lightcliffe B were seventh in the fourth section.
