REGARDING the fatal accident on Bradford Road, Brighouse, near Wellholme Park (Brighouse Echo April 30).

I was a police officer in Brighouse when the Police Station was on Police Street. That was many years ago. The argument about Bradford Road ha
s been going on since I was there.

The officer in charge at Brighouse in my years was forever complaining and putting facts and figures to the then local council.

You could say that in a working week on Bradford Road, including what we called "Devil's Corner" most officers would deal with at least two accidents each week on that road.

It is outrageous that people are still being killed on that road. Someone should be made accountable for this.

I am 67 now and I was an officer there for three years starting from training school at 19.

When I read the paper – which I read most weeks as my wife comes from Brighouse – I could not believe this argument was still going on. I suggest the people of Brighouse make a nuisance of themselves to Calderdale Council. Lives cannot keep on being lost on this road.

Michael Wood.
