JUST over a month ago I was on about how the goals had dried up since Huddersfield Town had brought in Andy Cole to coach their strikers and since that comment the goals have been hitting the back of the net.
I watched last Saturday's home televised game with Wycombe Wanderers and without doubt it could have been 12-0 instead of 6-0!

They had also put six away in their FA Cup tie with Dagenham and Redbridge and have now scored more goals than any other
club in the Football or Premier leagues. Like the weather of late, it is simply raining goals for the Terriers.

No wonder Leeds United are talking of opening up their upper tier for the visit of Town, the forthcoming match will fill Elland Road.
Judging by what I saw, manager Lee Clark has a good mix of players and I liked the way his young keeper Alex Smithies got the ball out quick with throws and kicks to his wide players. This destroyed Wycombe, who must be wondering what has hit them since their promotion into League 1 at the end of last season.

  • OVER at the Shay, FC Halifax Town are simply swamped with cup competitions. They certainly put obstacles in the way of clubs lower down the ladder to make progress with a variety of cups to compete for.

  • Their success in them has also seen them fall behind with their league fixtures but I am sure with the squad Neil Aspin has pulled together they can make up the leeway and continue with their aim of automatic promotion.

FC Durham, who were in a similar position last year and then won up with their backlog, are now in dire straights in the UniBond Premier and using amateur players, and the only one left from last season is their long serving goalkeeper who on average is having seven a game whacked past him.

Should Town be promoted I cannot see that happening with the rock solid board of directors they now have behind them.

  • JUST to let you know it will be next week when I bring you some inside stuff on the Mike Tyson UK tour from Mark Reynolds of Rawthorpe ABC. Some tremendous contributions from clubs and individuals this week so I am keeping things tight. I will also be spelling out the advantages of having a successful Brighouse Town FC and all about their recently launched Business Club Weekly.

  • FINALLY this week for my Leeds United correspondents who watch for my name dropping. Just to let you know that I am changing my name by deed poll to Simon Cowell II.

  • Did I give X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke her chance at Doncaster three years ago this January when she opened the Keepmoat Stadium for the visit of Huddersfield Town? Yes I did, and what is more the girl who also sang with her on that day, Katheryn Sayles is now in great demand in her final year at the London College of Music.

In between studies she has been singing national anthems at Twickenham and also backing Canadian singer Michael Buble.

I am looking forward to a meeting with Old Brodleians president Guy Standeven in the next week to plan the summer concert at Woodhead Park which will be some occasion, I can tell you.
