Objectors plan to appeal over fire station decision
Objectors are appalled that plans for a new station in Rastrick have been passed.
Councillors voted in favour of the application submitted by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue at Calderdale Council’s planning committee on January 29.
Now residents who live near to the site in Clough Lane, plan to make a formal complaint to Calderdale Council over the way the application was handled and an application will be made for Judicial Review in a bid to overturn the decision.
David Collins said residents were not happy with the way the planning meeting was carried out. “Residents were already appalled at the planning officers report and how it had ignored local and national policies. Regarding the meeting itself they were appalled that the planning committee ignored all the information brought to their attention regarding how the application contravened council policies.”
He added that the report said there was no sufficient accident record but one pedestrian died following the injuries they sustained in a road accident in Slade Lane back in 2008.
“Our concern is that the experts they employ have made a lot of serious mistakes,” said Mr Collins.
“There is protective species of animals and plants and that wasn’t included in the report and they didn’t consult the conservation officer. No planning notices were put up outside the site to begin with, which is why the consultation period had to be extended.
“Then it was delayed twice at planning committee because they forgot to put a public notice in the paper saying about the public footpath.”
And it was delayed for a second time for a further noise survey at night, results which the residents do not feel are accurate.
“We have been legally advised that we have grounds to make the appeal to get the decision quashed. Nobody minds a fire station in Rastrick but let’s get it in the right place and let’s get it done properly,” he said.
A spokeswoman for the Council said: “We are unable to comment on individual cases. We are looking into the complaints.”
