Green light to transform mill complex
A FORMER mill and workshop in Rastrick will be transformed into three properties.
Calderdale councillors have given the green light to the plans submitted by Mr R. Bottomley after he agreed to improve the road surface at the junction of Bowling Alley.
The properties will be built in Bowling Alley Terrace which can only be accessed via a small unadopted road.
Councillor Christine Beal (Con, Rastrick) spoke on behalf of the residents. “It is a cul de sac, a no through road, but it is not unusual for vehicles to go up and think they can get out again. The sight line to the left is also difficult.”
She said residents accepted that a residential development was likely but were concerned about being able to turn their vehicles around.
Mr Bottomley’s agent said: “As it stands the applicant does own the land used as a turning area by the residents. We did send in an email to the council that states that we are mindful to provide a turning facility on the entrance of the site for the benefit of the residents and the development.”
Concerns were raised about the number of properties and traffic movement. But the agent said it was better to be homes than an industrial use. “The mill building as it stands is just to large to convert for a single property and that is why we went for three, We are here to work with the residents and we have no reason to be at loggerheads with them. We have come to some sort of compromise and that is all I wish to see.”
Councillor Martin Burton said: “It is a site that needs something doing with it.”
