Decision due on fire station

COUNCILLORS will decide on Tuesday if plans for the new fire station at Rastrick will be passed.

The application submitted by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has been recommended for permit by Calderdale Council planning officers.

Around 34 letters of objection have been received in connection with the plan that also includes associated access and landscaping.

The new station will include a three bay operational fire station, which will comprise of vehicle garage, offices, dormitory and rest and recreation areas. There will be a service yard to the rear and car parking areas to the side and rear.

The station will serve both Brighouse and Elland where the current stations will close as part of the fire brigades plans to save money.

It will also allow better access to the M62. The construction of the new station will mean that 24 full-time posts through planned retirements will be lost.

Some of the objections include the historical significance of the site, traffic, the impact on wildlife and the risk of flooding.

Yorkshire Water has no objection to the plan subject to conditions and no response has been received from West Yorkshire Archaeology Advisory Service.

The plans will go before the planning committee on Tuesday and is expected to be heard at around 3pm at Halifax Town Hall.
